First Lady to Speak Opening Night of Convention
The Democratic National Convention Committee announced this morning that First Lady Michelle Obama will speak on the opening night of the 2012 Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, September 4th.
“The First Lady is an inspiration to millions of Americans, and has been a tireless advocate for military families and our nation’s children,” said 2012 Democratic Convention Chair, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. “As the person who knows him best, she will offer unique insights into the President as a husband, father and a leader over the last four years.”
She will be joined opening night of the convention by San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro who will be the first Latino to deliver the keynote at a Democratic National Convention.
The First Lady will help set the stage for President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to give their acceptance speeches before tens of thousands of Americans at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday, September 6th.

There was a unanimous decision in the drafting committee to include it in the platform…everybody was for it.

The 15-member Democratic Party platform draft committee unanimously approved language supporting marriage equality, and according to Frank, a member of the committee, the vote wasn’t even close. The draft still has to be approved by the full platform committee, which meets in two weeks; then, delegates at the Democratic National Convention will have to vote in favor of it it.
